April Storytime Session

Officially, Storytimes will continue to meet inside at the Queset House throughout the rainy month of April. Because Spring has officially sprung, however, we know we can count on some sunny days! This means that the location for Storytime will be weather-dependent each day. On mornings when we get those infamous April showers, we’ll be meeting inside. For inside days, registration is still required. If you have not yet registered, please do so now (or sign-up for the Waiting List; you can find these links by clicking on the name of the Storytime group you wish to attend at the bottom of this page). On bright, clear days, however, we’ll be taking it to the Garden! If it’s gorgeous out, bring your blanket; on outside days, everyone will be welcome (regardless of registration status). As we bend and sway with whatever the (unpredictable) New England weather blows in, please be aware of our latest guidelines:

  • Space is limited and registration is required. This is the best way to ensure attendance, regardless of our Storytime location. Please read your confirmation email carefully to check if you’ve been fully registered or if you’ve placed on the Waiting List. Once your registration is confirmed, you are registered for that Storytime for the entire month. If you do not see a registration available, it means that both the session and the Waiting List are full. You may email kids@amesfreelibrary.org to find out more.

  • You must complete a separate registration for each child attending Storytime. Due to space constraints, no more than one adult may accompany a child.

  • Indoor Storytimes will be held in the second floor Conference Room at Queset House.

  • On rainy days, waitlisted or unregistered patrons may drop in for a simulcast Storytime experience. Anytime we’re inside, a simulcast (live video feed) will be presented on the big screen in the first floor Presentation Commons at Queset House.

  • In the event of an Outside Storytime, all families (regardless of registration status) will be welcome. Unfortunately, since the forecast can be unreliable, there’s no way of knowing this in advance. As you arrive at the Library, check the signboard at the end of our driveway for an announcement regarding the day’s location. If your family is not registered and you find we’re meeting inside, you can always watch the simulcast or visit the Library to check-out books and browse our shelves.

  • Please arrive on time. Queset House doors will open at 10:20 and will be locked after 10:40 AM.

  • Please sit with and participate with your child. Everyone has a better experience when you enjoy Storytime together! With a room at full capacity, this also helps minimize distractions for all Storytime participants.

  • If you are unable to attend, please email us as soon as possible. This will allow us to contact families on the Waiting List who are eagerly awaiting their opportunity to participate.

One final update for April: Miss Jess has been named the new Assistant Director of the Ames Free Library! Congratulations, Miss Jess! This means that she will no longer be leading Wiggleworms on Tuesday or Babytime on Wednesday. Your new host for Wiggleworms is Miss Alyisha, who currently runs Family Storytime on Thursdays; Miss Hannah (new to the AFL) will be taking over Babytime in April. Welcome, Hannah! Both are looking forward to mornings filled with stories, songs, rhymes, dancing, stretching, learning, and tons of fun!

Find out more and register for Wiggleworms, Babytime, or Family Storytime on our Storytime page.

Please contact kids@amesfreelibrary.org with any questions or concerns.

If you are not ready to join us for indoor storytimes, check out our previously recorded storytime sessions, or watch the Storytime Snippets channel, in which Miss Jess presents popular storytime songs and rhymes.
