Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Visits are limited to a maximum of 45 minutes per person.

Total occupancy in the building is limited to 10 visitors at any given time, so short waits outside may be necessary.

All services below are FREE with your Ames Free Library card, and titles are automatically returned at the end of the lending period - meaning no late fees, ever!

Libby App

Libby

A new, easy to use service from Overdrive! Through the Libby app, you can download eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines. Libby is available for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 10.

Overdrive app

OverDrive

eBooks, audiobooks*, and 50 magazine titles are available through OverDrive! You may also download the Overdrive app to your mobile device. OverDrive is available for Android, Chromebooks, iOS, Fire tablets, or Windows 8/10.

*Effective September 4, 2019, Overdrive will be ending support for OverDrive for Mac. This means that Mac users will no longer see the option to download audiobook titles. Please feel free to try Libby for audiobooks instead! You also have the option to listen to audiobooks directly through your browser using OverDrive Listen.

Hoopla Digital

Are you an Ames Free Library cardholder looking for movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, comics and TV shows? These can be enjoyed using your web browser, phone, tablet, Kindle Fire (Fire OS 5.0.0 or newer) or TV. To get started with Hoopla, follow these steps:

  • Register for a Hoopla account on hoopladigital.com. This is all you will need to do if you would like to stream digital content directly through your desktop browser.
  • To use Hoopla on your mobile device, after you have registered for a Hoopla account, use your mobile device to download the Hoopla app at the bottom of the Hoopla Digital main page (pick the app store that corresponds to your device).

Be sure to look for the Ames Free Library's curated lists! From the Hoopla Digital app, use the "Genre" button, select your genre, and under the "Categories" tab, look for categories that have "AFL" in the title. From your browser, you'll use the "Browse" drop-down menu and follow the same process.

gr 7-12 eBook Database

TeenBookCloud is an online database of eBooks and educator resources perfect for students in grades 7-12. It offers a robust selection of Graphic Novels, Enhanced Novels, eBooks, classic literature, National Geographic videos, educator resources, and audiobooks. The collection is available online around the clock. No downloads, no waiting! If you can access the internet, you can be reading, watching, or listening to fantastic content.
